Calendar of Affiliate Deadlines and Events

August / Sept

Early August:  Register for the NCTE Annual Convention and secure a hotel room.  See the July Convention Preview or the NCTE website for details, registration forms, and hotel information.

September 15:  Last day for receipt of affiliate dues and name(s) of NCTE Director(s) in order to be represented at the Annual Business Meeting of the Board of Directors.

September 15:  Deadline for submitting student affiliate roster updates, dues, annual report forms, and editor reports.

October / Nov

Make last-minute preparations for the NCTE Annual ConventionNote that if your NCTE Director is unable to attend the Convention, the Affiliate Office can help you find a convention registrant from your area to represent your affiliate at the Board of Directors Meeting.

October 15:  Deadline for submitting resolutions to the NCTE Resolutions Committee Chair.

October 20: NCTE National Day on Writing.

Early November:  Board of Directors packets emailed to all designated directors by early November.

November 17-20, 2011:  NCTE Annual Convention in Chicago, Illinois (postconvention workshops: November 21-22)

December

December 1:  Newly elected and appointed NCTE officers, committee chairs, commission directors, members of the Standing Committee on Affiliates and the SLATE Steering Committee take office.

January / Feb

Late January:  Affiliates and student affiliates receive information and applications for awards.

NCTE Cosponsored Speakers program for next school year emailed to affiliates.

January 30: Affiliate and assembly group tax exemption forms are due.

March / April

March 21-24, 2012:  CCCC Convention in St. Louis, Missouri

Month of April:  NCTE Advocacy Month

Early April:  NCTE ballots are mailed.

April 2:  Membership lists are due at NCTE headquarters.

April 23:  Advocacy Day (hopefully your affiliate will send a representative)

May

Early May:  Annual report reminders mailed to affiliates.

May 1:   Applications for most affiliate awards are due.

May 15:  NCTE Directors receive minutes of the last Annual Business Meeting of the Board of Directors for reporting to the members of their affiliate.

June

June 1:  Deadline for receipt of NCTE ballots at NCTE headquarters.

June 15:  Allotment of NCTE Directors is sent to each affiliate.

July

July 2011:  Affiliate Leadership Meeting.  Each affiliate sends up to four representatives (out-of-region affiliates are welcome but must pay all expenses).

July 15:  Notices sent to affiliates to submit annual reports including roster updates, dues, SLATE annual reports and editor reports. These will all be due sometime in late summer or early fall. Notices will include a specific due date. 

July 15:  Applications for Affiliate Excellence Awards are due.

July 15:  Information for the affiliate flier due.  The affiliate flier goes into production with information currently listed on file at NCTE.  The flier includes names of all active affiliates and available website addresses plus names, addresses, and e-mail addresses for their membership chairs.  The affiliate flier is also published on the NCTE website.

July 19-21, 2012:  Whole Language Umbrella Summer Institute in St. Louis, Missouri.

Late July:  Members receive the NCTE Annual Convention Preview in the July Council Chronicle
