NCTE has a partnership/alliance with First Book because their mission is congruent with ours—supporting reading by putting new books in the hands to students who otherwise would not have such books—but the students don’t need to be the students of NCTE members and teachers that sign up for the books don’t need to be NCTE members. Our promotion of First Book is a “feel good” way to replace and extend the individual book donation component of convention both to benefit schools in the convention city and to benefit other schools across the nation.
