Ask Your Representative to Support Funding
for Comprehensive Literacy

Please take time to ask your Representative to add his/her name by March 12, 2012, to the “Dear Colleague” letter sent by Representatives Yarmuth and Polis.  This letter requests $160 million for the Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy program.  To sign on Representatives should contact Jessica Phelps in Congressman Yarmuth’s office at Jessica.Phelps@mail.house.gov or 5-5401.

To call:  Contact the Capitol Switchboard at 202-723-5246, give your zip code and the operator will connect you to your Representative’s office.  Please leave the message above.   You can do this 24 hours a day and leave a voice mail if necessary.

To write:  Use the letter template below

  • Please DO edit the letter in the template as you see fit, especially to add brief personal comments about what you know works in literacy education after the second or third paragraph.
  • For your information, NCTE Washington, DC, Office Director Barbara Cambridge has outlined the Striving Readers Act and its importance to literacy education.
