Walter Mosley’s (2005) 47 is a compelling story about a young boy growing up on Master Tobias’ Corinthian Plantation as a slave. Forty-seven, the protagonist and narrator, has to endure all of the harsh brutalities that slaves did from the branding of the number 47 on his shoulder to an extended stay in “The Tomb.”
