You might be thinking, "Advocacy isn't for me!"  Yet, there are many ways you can make a difference.  Join NCTE in celebrating Literacy Education Advocacy Month by doing just one little thing to support literacy educatiopn in March or April.

Note those elected officials whose issues align with the Legislative Platform

Find the contact information for the home offices of your Members of Congress

Add your Members of Congress to your address book

Register for NCTE's Literacy Education Advocacy Day

Call the home offices of your Members of Congress to schedule a visit for while they're at home April 6-17

19 - Thur - Add your Members of Congress to your address book
20 - Fri - Find the contact information for the home offices of your Members of Congress

23 - Mon - Register for NCTE's Literacy Education Advocacy Day
24 - Tue - Send details about Literacy Education Advocacy Day to a colleague
25 - Wed - Call the home office of your Members of Congress to schedule a visit in the next week or so
26 - Thur - Think of a story describing how your students and your teaching are represented in the Platform
27 - Fri - Email or call your Congressional representative with your stand and story on this issue

2 - Thur - Share your story with a colleague and with NCTE
3 - Fri - Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper sharing your story

6 - Mon - Tell NCTE about the small thing you did to celebrate Literacy Education Advocacy Month
7 - Tue - It's not too late to register for Literacy Education Advocacy Day
8 - Wed - Schedule appointments with your Members of Congress for visits on April 23
9 - Thur - Discuss NCTE's Legislative Platform with other teachers in your building
10 - Fri -

13 - Mon - Review the talking points for Literacy Education Advocacy Day
14 - Tue - Talk to a neighbor about what you're doing in your classroom
15 - Wed - Send NCTE what you think are the top three education issues in your state
16 - Thur - See what education issues are featured in your local newspaper
17 - Fri - Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper sharing your story

20 - Mon - Talk with another teacher about a federal education issue that is important to you
21 - Tues - Share your story about how your professional development experiences have impacted your classroom
22 - Wed - Call or email the DC offices of your Members of Congress with a message from NCTE
23 - Thurs - Literacy Education Advocacy Day in DC; Call or email the DC Offices of your Members of Congress with a message from NCTE
24 - Fri - If you attended Advocacy Day in DC, send NCTE a report of the visits you made
