Help Us Celebrate the Twentieth Year for the
National African American Read-In
For this year only, the National Director has extended the Read-In for the entire month of February. Beginning on Sunday, February 1, 2009, and ending on Saturday, February 28, 2009, you can hold a Read-in on any day of the month.
Join over a million readers in the Twentieth National African American Read-In in February 2009. The event is sponsored by the Black Caucus of NCTE and NCTE. The program has also been endorsed by the International Reading Association. For more information on the 2009 African American Read-In click here.
As part of the National African American Read-In and Walter Dean Myers’ Second Chance Initiative, NCTE is proud to provide this complimentary recording of the Web seminar featuring Walter Dean Myers. We encourage teachers and students to gather while viewing this presentation.
Prepare your computer first and then click here to watch the presentation. The full text of Dope Sick is available until February 24th from the Adlit.org website. Please e-mail NCTE any comments or questions about the Web seminar.

2008 African American Read-In
On behalf of the Black Caucus of NCTE and the National Council of Teachers of English, we thank you for your participation in the 2008 African American Read-In. You can print a certificate of participation and check out a list of all those who hosted a Read-In.
Have you held a Read-In? If so, let us know about it. Send a brief description of how you proceeded from start to finish and what your experience was like. Other participants might find it of interest and it might get others to host their own Read-In. You can also send us articles from newspapers, school notices, church flyers or any other information pertaining to your Read-In. If you send photographs, please send along written permission for use. Send all materials to Linda Walters at NCTE Headquarters.
