Delano Elementary School at 3937 W. Wilcox in Chicago, Illinois held the first African Read-in on Friday, February 15,2013. We sent letters home inviting parents to come and participate along with sending letters to political figures in Chicago. Our Alderman came and read to a couple of classrooms books written by Black authors and it was a great experience for all involved. We had many parents who came and read to classrooms including our Principal and Assistant Principal. The literacy coach provided the reading materials to those who participated in the Read-In.

Westwood Elementary, Junction City, Kansas We had a special display of books by African American authors/illustrators in the library for our students to check out and read during the month of February. Kids would come into the library asking for these books. Some of our teachers had African American author/illustrator studies in their classrooms with their students.
