Background

In this resolution, NCTE members recognized the important contribution writing centers have made to the success of many students at all levels of education. Be it therefore

Resolution

Resolved, that the National Council of Teachers of English endorse the principle that the establishment of a writing center should be a long-term commitment on the part of an institution, including stable budgeting and full academic status; and

          that NCTE widely publish this resolution to its affiliates and other professional organizations and refer institutions to the full text of the "Position Statement on Professional Concerns of Writing Center Directors" published in The Writing Center Journal (6: 1985).
