On Writing Across the Curriculum

1983 NCTE Annual Business Meeting in Denver, Colorado

Background NCTE members proposed this resolution in the conviction that writing is such a valuable life skill and such an important means of learning that it should not be practiced solely in English classes. Be it therefore Resolution Resolved, that the National Council of Teachers of English affirm the position that students should write frequently in every course as a way of learning the subject matter and of sharpening their writing skills; and           that NCTE seek ways to provide assistance to teachers of other subject matter disciplines in their efforts to improve students' writing skills in all subject matter fields.
