Background
The College Section Steering Committee has sent letters in support of a teacher of English in the Soviet Union who has been denied his right to teach. The Committee foresees that other such requests may be made on behalf of persons engaged in all academic levels of teaching English. The National Council of Teachers of English historically has stood for the rights of English teachers to practice their profession. Be it therefore
Resolution
Resolved, that the National Council of Teachers of English support, through SLATE (Support for the Learning and Teaching of English), when it is appropriate, teachers of English in any country who are denied, on political or ideological grounds, their professional rights to teach, to publish, or to do research. | |
