On Supporting Instructional Materials Centers

Background

In order to meet the needs of students and teachers in the public schools, there must be sufficient financing to provide instructional materials centers with adequate quarters, staff, organized collections of materials, and equipment. In recent years, a substantial amount of the federal funds allocated for library materials in these centers under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title II, have been impounded.  Be it therefore

Resolution

Resolved, that the National Council of Teachers of English cooperate with the American Association of School Librarians in its effort to develop federal and state programs for categorical aid for instructional materials centers at every level in each state.
