On Accepting Journalism Courses in English Curricula

Background The proliferation and increasing impact of mass media heightened NCTE members' concern about the need to help students understand how communications media function and develop their ability to analyze and interpret news and information.  Members pointed out that well-designed journalism courses help students to become effective speakers and writers.  Be it therefore Resolution Resolved, that the National Council of Teachers of English support the acceptance into English curricula of journalism courses which focus on the collecting, writing, and editing, or the interpretation and evaluation, of news and information.
