NCTE Supports the Student Flexibility Act of 2003
NCTE Executive Committee

The Executive Committee of the National Council of Teachers of English voted on May 2, 2003, to support Senate Bill S.956 -- the Student Testing Flexibility Act of 2003. Introduced by U.S. Senators Russ Feingold (D-WI) and Jim Jeffords (I-VT), this pending legislation would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to give states and local school districts that have demonstrated academic success the flexibility to seek a waiver of the new annual standardized testing requirements in the No Child Left Behind Act.

NCTE joins the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), the National PTA, the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and the School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) in their support of this bill.
