Call for Resolutions
One of the most important ways you can make a difference is to submit a resolution on an issue of importance to English language arts education. See listing below to see current resolutions, which are good models for resolution format, and the rules and procedures governing the submission of resolutions. Submissions for resolutions are due October 15.

NCTE resolutions are presented and voted on at the Annual Business Meeting for the Board of Directors and Other Members of the Council during NCTE's Annual Convention each November. They represent the stands that NCTE has taken on issues in education and are the only ideas which approach the status of official Council stances.
The texts of many of the resolutions passed since 1970 can be found at "resolutions by topic and resolutions by date. They may be printed, downloaded, copied, and disseminated without permission from NCTE. Print copies of resolutions can also be obtained via fax by contacting Lori Bianchini at NCTE Headquarters (800-369-6283, ext. 3644; ).
Any NCTE member may submit a resolution to the NCTE Committee on Resolutions. The resolution must be signed by at least five Council members. The committee decides which resolutions are worthy of presentation to the membership. The resolutions which emerge from this process are discussed and debated by the members present at the Annual Business Meeting (open to all members) and those which carry by majority vote become official positions of the Council for the indefinite future. Resolutions not passed by a two-thirds vote at the Annual Business Meeting are submitted to the entire membership in a mail ballot.
NOTE: All NCTE members are invited to attend the Annual Business Meeting at the Annual Convention and take part in discussions and vote on resolutions on issues of concern to the profession! Please verify your membership and obtain a voting card for the meeting by presenting your NCTE membership card at the Membership Booth on Thursday or Friday, or at the door before the start of the meeting. | |
