Help NCTE Spread the Good Word about Teaching!
Teachers are doing innovative and exciting things in K-12 and college classrooms today. Students are becoming avid readers, developing terrific composition styles, collaborating with fellow students, visiting writing labs, and learning how to become teachers.
Join NCTE in spreading the good news about the work being done in schools by teachers and students. Encourage your local media to do a feature on a teacher or program in your school. Talk to the editor of your local university newspaper about writing a story on aspiring teachers pursuing their dreams.
Respond to negative reports in the local press with letters to the editor or opinion pieces filled with positive experiences focusing on terrific teachers or programs in your area. Help to educate your local education press with materials found on NCTE's Web site. As a result, community members, legislators, and others will have the chance to read about these teachers and programs!
Your affiliate, assembly, or other NCTE group may have accomplished a project or held a successful meeting that the press might do a story on as well. Take this opportunity to "show off" your group's success!
Feel free to use NCTE position statements and resolutions as support for statements you might make on issues affecting teaching.
Tell us your story! (subject line: NCTE-Tell us your story!) What issue did you discuss with the media? What was the result? What advice do you have for other teachers and NCTE leaders who are trying to place stories with the media?
