2004 Annual Report, Standing Committee Against Censorship

Committee members assembled in San Francisco to talk about our two sessions: Karen Cushman: On Writing in the 21st Century and Students’ Rights to Learn/Teachers’Rights to Teach: Rethinking Censorship Issues. Discussion moved to planning the Indianaplis venues and selecting participants for the Intellectual Freedom Award Committee. Several group members then continued on-going work on the document revision of Guidelines for Dealing with Censorship of Nonprint and Multimedia Materials.

In January, the revision draft was submitted to the NCTE Executive Committee for its comments and consideration. We are presently responding to suggestions, refining the revision for publication.

Marlene Ann Birkman, Chair
