2003 Annual Report, Standing Committee Against Censorship

The Standing Committee Against Censorship continues to review five printed materials sent on request to censorship challenges, an initiative begun under the leadership of C. Anne Webb. The Committee is focusing on examining and re-writing "Guidelines for Dealing With Censorship of Non-print Materials." Intense efforts are being made to submit a revision for approval and electronic publication.

Charles Suhor, NCTE/SLATE Field Representative, continues to respond by letter with grace and insight to challenges coming into headquarters. With his help and the published guidelines, many censorship concerns in the twenty-first century are being addressed. The Committee is actively working to create timely, engaging sessions for the San Francisco and Indianapolis conventions. It strives to serve all facets of the Council and its members.

Marlene Ann Birkman, Chair
