2003 Annual Report, Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines Advisory Committee
The PRESLM commitee discussed the following ideas for updating the guidelines for evaluating the literary magazines and increasing partcipation:
--New rubric for judging the magazines that includes technological innovations (such as CD-Rom, computer-generated art, and other nuances); --PR strategies for increasing interest and participation in the program; --Certificates of recognition for "Highest Awards" recipients (schools); --Consideration of selected student creations to be included in NCTE publications; --New design for the PRESLM application that aligns with standards and student achievement; --Review of criteria used by state judges; --Establishment of new/revised criteria to addrss the issue of nudity, sexuality, and inappropriate language; --Policy for validating student original work; --NCTE "logo" on the website; --Incentives for participants; --Feedback given to schools about the rating of their magazines; and --Present a workshop at an NCTE conference about PRESLM
