2002 Annual Report, Standing Committee on College Forum
The College Forum of the National Council of Teachers of English addresses the key issues in the teaching and learning of college English. To achieve this, the College Forum has the following key responsibilities:
to articulate concerns for further inquiry and advocacy to develop strategic alliances with other higher education professional organizations (e.g., AAHE, ACLS) to identify potential projects and to articulate means for carrying them out (e.g., identifying participants or investigators, possible funding sources, and potential strategies or processes).
Committee members met in Baltimore at the Conference on Composition and Communication Convention in Chicago and at a summer meeting in Chicago.
This year’s work has been centered on the following:
(1) Developing and overseeing the Networked Teaching and Learning Technologies (NTLT) Standards and Best Practices of Teaching English Online project. James Inman is the principal investigator and writer of the grant proposal working with members from all of the constituent college organizations of NCTE. NTLT plans to create online opportunities and resources including an interactive directory of teachers and programs online and an online bibliography of print and electronic scholarship. There will also be a training program for teachers. The main goal of the project is to establish guidelines for online teaching and learning.
(2) Developing a set of procedures for identifying issues of key concern and addressing these issues strategically.
