2002 Annual Report, Committee on Racism and Bias in the Teaching in English

Committee members continue to discuss plans for increased implementation of its functions.  The Committee is developing recommendations for addressing racism and bias in proposed NCTE publications and continues to work on annotated booklists for teaching literature by people of color.  A recommended list of works by Latino/a authors for secondary students will be submitted to the NCTE Editorial Board.  NCTE should increase its efforts to attract teachers of color in the profession.  The Committee suggested reestablishing “programs” like “Teachers for the Dream.”
