2002 Annual Report, Promising Young Writers Advisory Committee

The Promising Young Writers Advisory Committee met at the Annual Convention in Baltimore.  The primary objective of the November 16, 2002, meeting was to develop the impromptu topics and prompts for the 2002 program.  These were sent to NCTE in December.  Committee members will continue to collect prompts for a topic file to expedite the selection process.  In addition, plans will be considered that might improve publicity for the program.

In the 2001–2002 school year, 54 state coordinators and 400 judges participated in the program; 799 students were nominated, and 250 received Certificates of Recognition.  In May 2002, a booklet listing the names of the students cited as winners was distributed to NCTE affiliates.  This is the seventh year that the booklet has been published.
