Other Assistance
Committee chairs are sent as much NCTE letterhead and as many envelopes as they request. (NCTE groups may not create their own stationery, even at their own expense.) Other supplies, however, such as pencils and stamps, should be purchased locally.
The chair may request that headquarters establish an electronic listserv for the group's members. The staff liaison and Executive Committee liaison must be included on such a listserv, and members who lack e-mail facilities must be sent a hard copy of all listserv correspondence via fax or e-mail by the committee chair.
All committees are identified on NCTE's website (visit at http://www.ncte.org). However, staff cannot develop separate websites for committees. If a committee chair or member creates and agrees to update a website, NCTE staff will create a link from the NCTE website to the committee's. Committee listservs or websites are discontinued when the committee's tenure ends.
Clerical and secretarial work is normally handled through the home institution of the chair. However, NCTE Headquarters can sometimes help with the reproduction and mailing of forms, surveys, or questionnaires previously approved by the Executive Committee, and other such work, when clear copy is supplied. Except during the convention rush--September through November--this work can usually be done promptly.
When a group wishes to send an approved questionnaire or other form to a specified group or to a sampling of NCTE members, NCTE Headquarters can provide this service within the limits of the computer. Queries on this sort of activity should be directed during the early planning stages to the staff liaison officer.
