Committee Meetings

Meetings at the Annual Convention in November are held at the discretion of the committee chair, who is contacted about arrangements through the office of the designated Associate Executive Director in late spring. Since committee members are usually conventiongoers, most committees do meet at the Annual Convention. Council finances, however, do not permit payment of travel or living expenses for the November meeting.

Convention meetings are usually a highly productive time for a committee. Therefore, the committee chair, should plan to conduct the meeting or arrange for the associate chair or an active committee member to carry the agenda forward at the convention.

Meetings at times other than the convention are ordinarily not feasible because of cost; however, some committees whose members are located in the same geographic area may hold more frequent meetings. Unless otherwise authorized by the Executive Committee, those meetings must be at the expense of the members.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of convention week is set aside for committee meetings, a chair may request an additional all-day meeting of a committee on Thursday of convention week by petitioning the NCTE President not later than May 1. Permission will be given only if the meeting is vital to the completion of the committee's work. A modest per diem is granted committee members for such meetings.
