Statements to Media
Any member of NCTE is, to one degree or another, a spokesperson for the Council. Appendix E includes excerpts from the NCTE Handbook for Public Communication, providing the Executive Committee's guidelines for addressing representatives of the popular media. Since committee leaders are sometimes called upon to offer their viewpoints on important issues, Appendix E should be studied closely. In addition, NCTE now has a Spokesperson's Network in place to ensure that spokespeople are available to speak with the media on important topics in English Language Arts education at all levels. If you become aware of a situation in which a journalist may benefit by speaking with a designated NCTE spokesperson, or if you would like to find out more about the NCTE Spokesperson's Network, please call the NCTE Public Information Office at 1-800-369-6283, ext. 3630 or e-mail .
