Involvement of People of Color
The members of the Diversity Subcommittee
of the Executive Committee of NCTE (Leila Christenbury, Chair; Sharon Chaney,
Sharon Floyd, Patricia Lambert Stock, Vivian Vasquez, members; and Kathy Egawa,
NCTE staff liaison)* have
spent approximately two years researching the April 1996 report from the Task
Force on Involving People of Color in the Council. The purpose of the study was
to discern what directives from the 1996 report had and had not been implemented
to date and to make appropriate recommendations.
In September 2001 the Diversity
Subcommittee presented their report (in the form of an audit and
recommendations) to the NCTE Executive Committee. At that time the report was
accepted, and two motions submitted by the Diversity Subcommittee were also
passed.
