Achievement Awards in Writing Advisory Committee
To advise the NCTE staff liaison on any changes that should be made in the Achievement Awards program.
Committee Against Racism and Bias in the Teaching of English
To investigate and make recommendations to counteract racism and racial bias in written and visual teaching materials for English and language arts class­rooms.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Academic Studies Advisory Committee
To serve as a resource for Council groups, ad­ministrators, and/or community leaders on matters per­taining to lesbian, gay, and bisexual issues in the teach­ing of English, and make recommendations for specific actions.
NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children Selection Committee
To recommend on a regular basis every three years beginning in 1985 a living American poet to the NCTE Executive Committee for the NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children in recognition of his or her aggregate work.
NCTE/TESOL Committee
To encourage interchange among teachers of the English language arts at all levels on issues of bilin­gual education and English as a second language.
Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children's Literature Committee
To annually select the recipient of the Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children.
People of Color Advisory Committee
To seek recognition of people of color, to co­ordinate activities of people of color.
Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines Advisory Committee
To advise the NCTE staff liaison on any changes that should be made in the Program to Recog­nize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines.
Promising Young Writers Advisory Committee
To advise the NCTE staff liaison of changes that should be made in the Promising Young Writers program.
The Public Language Awards Committee
To select the recipients of the Annual George Orwell Award for Distinguished Contribution to Honesty and Clarity in Public Language and the NCTE Doublespeak Award.
